Season of Gratitude: Bringing Dreams to Life

It’s the season of giving, the time in the year when the weather gets worse but the world grows kinder. The final three months of the year all involve holidays that inspire generosity. This time of year is about being thankful for what you have and giving to those in need.

It’s also a season full of opportunities to donate and help the Dream Factory accomplish its mission. Join us this November — your gift, your time, or your referral can help us grant more dreams for Brooklyn children who need hope the most.

Fall is the season of giving because it is the season of the harvest. It is when farmers are ready to harvest and prepare for the winter. And when people gathered all their food, they usually had more than they needed for the winter. So they stored some and shared the rest. Simply, it was a time of plenty. This natural cycle has become tradition in multiple ways across history. A major one is when European settlers and Native Americans came together for a meal called the first Thanksgiving. In Ancient Greece, there was a celebration called Thesmophoria, where people gave thanks for the harvest. And, China celebrates its Mid-Autumn Festival with mooncakes and flying lanterns

But not everything is always good during the harvest season. Families with chronically ill children often have fewer resources to support themselves. This might be because of money or time going to care for their children, among many other hurdles. That means that during times like Thanksgiving, these families need to rely more on the generosity of others. But in these cases, the generosity of others can often go a very long way to help.

The Dream Factory of Brooklyn is calling for donations — but not because we need money. Donations to the Dream Factory go towards granting the Dreams of chronically ill children in Brooklyn. When it seems hopeless for families dealing with chronic illnesses, granting Dreams can have lasting impacts. Even if your donation seems small, it can go a long way to bring a smile to families that are in need of hope. Many of these children, despite their illnesses, are incredibly resilient. When faced with such hardship, they still shine. And when they are granted their Dreams, for example, going to Disney World, you can help them shine even brighter.

It can seem like things are hopeless sometimes, whether a child is chronically ill or not. But every act of kindness, especially during this season, will help someone in need even if you don’t see it. From helping someone on the street to donating to causes like the Dream Factory’s goals, making the world a better place is as easy as the kindnesses we give and receive every day. So if you want to do some good and help a family in need, donating, volunteering, or referring a child to the Dream Factory can help make that dream a reality. With your help, we can bring Dreams to life.
